The new 2024 Aston Martin DB12 unveiled
We bid adieu to the esteemed Aston Martin DB11 and warmly welcome its successor, the DB12. This new entrant boasts a significantly enhanced power output and a comprehensive tech upgrade.

In celebration of its illustrious 110-year history and the DB lineage's 75th anniversary, Aston Martin presents its latest grand tourer, the DB12, a twin-turbo V8 powerhouse, scheduled to hit the roads in the latter half of 2023.

Departing from the DB11's twin-turbocharged V12, the DB12 is fortified with a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, generating an impressive 500kW of power at 6000rpm and 800Nm of torque in the 2750 to 6000rpm range. This is a significant boost over the DBS and V12 DB11 AMR, with gains of 22kW and 53kW/100Nm respectively.

Boasting a 0-100km/h time of just 3.6 seconds, the DB12 can reach a staggering top speed of 325km/h. This fiery V8 is paired with a finely tuned eight-speed automatic transmission and a reduced final drive ratio, ensuring swift acceleration.

The DB12 is a pioneer for the brand, introducing an electronic rear differential that can lock between 0 and 100 per cent within milliseconds. Upgraded cam profiles, optimized compression ratios, and larger turbochargers have been employed to achieve heightened performance.

Two supplementary auxiliary coolers have been added alongside the main radiator, and a 56 per cent increase in open apertures significantly improves thermal airflow. Aston Martin has installed a low-temperature radiator in the charge cooler water circuit to maintain optimal engine intake air temperatures and has doubled the face area of the auxiliary outboard engine cooler.

The DB12 debuts an innovative suspension system with advanced adaptive dampers, allowing a broader range of force distribution, alongside four electronic stability program modes and five selectable drive modes: Wet, GT, Sport, Sports Plus, and Individual. These adjustments enhance the DB12's drivability and distinctiveness from the DB11.

The DB12's bonded aluminum structure has been fine-tuned to improve torsional stiffness by seven per cent, steering feel and suspension performance. Enhanced changes have been made to the engine cross brace, undertrays, front crossmember, and rear bulkhead.

Other improvements include refined electronic power-assisted steering with a 13.09:1 ratio rack and a recalibrated brake booster for improved pedal feedback.

The DB12, riding on 21-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in fresh Michelin Pilot Sport 5s tyres, exudes power. It is equipped with 400mm front and 360mm rear cast-iron brake discs, and optional carbon ceramic brakes which reduce unsprung mass by 27kg.

The DB12's design language is more assertive than its predecessor, with a wider front and rear track, a reimagined radiator and splitter, and all-new LED headlights. However, it maintains its recognizable Aston Martin silhouette post the A-pillar.

A newly designed interior awaits in the DB12, with a standout change being the removal of the former Mercedes-Benz COMAND infotainment system. It has been replaced with an in-house developed touchscreen system. Dual 10.25-inch screens and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, alongside physical controls for drive mode selection, heating, and ventilation.

A built-in e-SIM enables over-the-air updates, while a new Aston Martin app gives owners the ability to remotely control their vehicle and send navigation directions, among other features.

Bridge of Weir quilted leather adorns the seats, and a newly available 15-speaker 1170W Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system offers an immersive audio experience. An 11-speaker 390W system comes standard.

Buyers can personalize their DB12 through Aston Martin's Q service.

Aston Martin CEO, Amedeo Felisa, commented on the introduction of the new DB12, stating, “When you consider a brand with a legacy as profound as Aston Martin, it is crucial to respect its history. The best way to do this is not by reminiscing, but by charging forward with the same enthusiasm and passion that inspired our founders 110 years ago. The new DB12 revitalizes the DB series and reaffirms Aston Martin's place as a manufacturer of truly remarkable high-performance sports cars.”

This unveiling forms part of Aston Martin's ambitious strategy to revitalize its entire front-engine sports car portfolio. Over the coming 24 months, eight launches are planned. In addition to the redesigned Vantage, DB11, and DBS, along with their Volante convertible counterparts - making a total of six - Aston Martin has also hinted at a model that will surpass the current “GT” benchmark.

With the DB12, Aston Martin continues to merge its classic, timeless design with cutting-edge technology and superior performance. With a tantalizing glimpse into the future of the brand's front-engine sports car lineup, enthusiasts and collectors alike are eagerly anticipating what's next on the horizon.

The 2024 Aston Martin DB12 is not just a grand tourer; it's a testament to the enduring spirit and legacy of a brand that has captivated car enthusiasts for over a century. This new addition to the DB lineage stands as a tribute to the past while embracing the future, embodying Aston Martin's commitment to crafting the ultimate driving experience.
