Hyundai Ioniq 6 2023: Australian pricing and specs released for Tesla Model 3 rival
The all-electric sedan will join Hyundai’s line-up in early 2023 with up to 614km of range

The Hyundai Ioniq 6, the second offering from Hyundai's Ioniq dedicated electric vehicle line-up, is set to debut in Australia with an anticipated launch date this month. This latest offering comes in three variants - the Dynamiq, Techniq and the Epiq - with the options of a single-motor rear-wheel drive or a dual-motor all-wheel drive, echoing the configurations of its predecessor, the Ioniq 5.

The Dynamiq, the base model, is available at a starting price of $74,000 excluding on-road costs, while the premium Epiq model comes in at $88,000 prior to on-road costs. Hyundai is forecasting that demand for the Ioniq 6 may surpass supply, similar to the Ioniq 5's situation.

Labelled as an "electric streamliner" by Hyundai, the Ioniq 6 boasts an impressive drag coefficient of merely 0.21, underscoring its streamlined design.

Power and Efficiency

The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 in the Dynamiq configuration features a single electric motor, delivering 168kW of power and 350Nm of torque, and operates with rear-wheel drive. The upper-tier Techniq and Epiq variants, on the other hand, feature a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that produces 239kW and 605Nm in total. All variants employ a 77.4kWh battery pack.

On the efficiency front, the Dynamiq variant offers a driving range of 614km on the WLTP cycle, while the Techniq and Epiq models provide 519km of range. An impressive charging capacity allows for the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in a mere 18 minutes using DC fast charging.

Design and Space

The Hyundai Ioniq 6, with the rear seats in their upright position, offers a boot space of 401L in the rear-wheel-drive model along with a 45L front boot. The all-wheel-drive models offer the same rear boot capacity, but with a slightly reduced front boot of 14.5L.

Warranty and Servicing

Hyundai offers a five-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty for the Ioniq 6, in addition to an eight-year, 160,000km warranty for the high-voltage battery. The vehicle requires servicing every 24 months or 30,000km, with the first two services capped at $560 for all models.

Safety

The Euro NCAP has awarded the Hyundai Ioniq 6 a five-star safety rating. The vehicle achieved impressive scores for adult occupant protection (98%), child occupant protection (87%), vulnerable road user protection (66%), and safety assist (90%).

All Ioniq 6 models come standard with a comprehensive suite of safety features, such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB), pedestrian and cyclist detection, junction turning assist, lane-change oncoming, rear AEB, blind-spot assist, blind-spot view monitor, evasive steering assist, rear cross-traffic assist, adaptive cruise control with stop/go, leading vehicle departure alert, intelligent speed limit assist, lane-keep assist, lane following assist (lane centring), rear occupant alert, safe exit assist, driver attention warning, surround-view camera with 3D mode, front and rear parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring.
