In a bid to refine its offerings, Genesis has updated its G80 model for 2023, incorporating a number of subtle alterations. Notably, a modern rotary dial has been introduced for the infotainment system, enhancing user experience.
Coming soon to Australian showrooms, the 2023 Genesis G80 sedan brings a few key updates to its lineup.
The base 2.5T model sees changes in its optional packages. The Sport Line Package is no longer available, leaving customers with the choice of a Luxury Package or a combined Luxury & Sport Line Package. A notable enhancement for this variant is the now standard upgraded brake package, once exclusive to the 3.5T and Sport models. This includes enlarged front brake rotors with four-piston monobloc calipers, embossed with the Genesis brand name, coupled with larger ventilated rear rotors.
For the 3.5T model, the previously optional Luxury Package now comes standard, with the Sport Package as an optional addition. As a result, a ‘standard’ 3.5T is no longer available and the Sport Package can only be obtained alongside the Luxury Package offerings.
The Electrified G80 continues to align with its petrol counterparts by adding an Ergo Motion 18-way power-adjustable front passenger seat with massage capabilities and a wireless phone charger for rear-seat occupants, paralleling features available in petrol G80s with the Luxury Package.
All variants of the 2023 G80 will now feature a raised rotary dial for the infotainment system, replacing the previous concave design—a change that was first introduced in the related GV80 crossover model.
Lastly, every model now sports a color-coordinated rear brake caliper cover displaying the Genesis wordmark, matching the aesthetic of the brakes at the front.
In essence, the 2023 Genesis G80 sedan, with its modifications and updates, aims to offer its customers a blend of luxury, sportiness, and advanced features that appeal to a broad range of preferences.

Engine Performance and Fuel Efficiency
Genesis G80 invites drivers to choose from three distinct powertrain options. The 2.5T model houses a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, which delivers 224kW of power and 422Nm of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and comes with rear-wheel drive. Notably, it can accelerate from 0-100km/h in an impressive 6.0 seconds.
In contrast, the 3.5T sports a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, dishing out 279kW and 530Nm. With its eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, it achieves 0-100km/h in just 5.1 seconds. Fuel consumption figures are 8.6L/100km and 10.7L/100km for the 2.5T and 3.5T models, respectively.
The 2023 Genesis G80 is also available as an all-electric version, the Electrified G80. With dual electric motors outputting 272kW and 700Nm, this variant features an electronic all-wheel-drive system. Its 87.2kWh battery pack offers an impressive 520-kilometer driving range, as per WLTP estimates. Boasting efficiency figures of 19.1kWh/100km, it can sprint from 0-100km/h in a swift 4.9 seconds.
Charging the Electrified G80 is straightforward, with direct current (DC) support allowing a 10 to 80 percent fast charge in roughly 22 minutes with a 350kW charger. Moreover, Genesis's unique Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) lets drivers toggle between RWD and AWD for optimal efficiency or maximum traction.
Safety
While the Electrified G80 is still to be assessed by ANCAP, its petrol counterpart has earned a five-star rating based on 2021 tests. Its scores in different categories are noteworthy, with 91% for adult occupant protection, 86% for children, 77% for vulnerable road users, and 80% for safety assist.
The Genesis G80 boasts ten airbags and an extensive array of active and passive safety systems. All variants include standard active safety features such as autonomous emergency braking, car, pedestrian, and cyclist detection, and adaptive cruise control with stop/go, among others. Also included are features such as lane change oncoming and side assist, blind-spot assist, driver attention warning, intelligent speed limit assist, and safe exit assist.
Additional active safety features include Lane Following Assist (lane centering), Multi Collision Brake, Rear cross-traffic assist, and a surround-view camera with 3D view. Comfort and safety are further improved with front and rear parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring.
The G80 doesn't fall short on airbag protection either, with a total of 10 airbags positioned for optimal safety: front, front centre side, driver’s knee, front thorax and pelvis, rear thorax, and curtain.
Genesis also provides an additional Forward Attention Warning and Reverse Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist on the Electrified G80 and models equipped with the Luxury Package. These advanced safety features, in combination with the extensive standard safety suite, demonstrate Genesis' commitment to keeping occupants safe and secure on every journey.
