Introducing the 2024 Subaru Impreza: unveiling innovations and expectations
Set to be offered alongside the closely related Crosstrek small SUV, the new Impreza is also likely to get a hybrid power plant

With the Australian market bracing for the launch of the 2024 Subaru Impreza, speculations are rife. While specific details about the variant assortment and price tags are yet to be unboxed, we can glean some information from the tidbits that have been revealed.

Subaru Australia has let slip that the refreshed Impreza will sport an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen and offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus wireless phone charging. Also included are the latest EyeSight driver aids, and, true to Subaru's tradition, the all-wheel drive system will be standard.

While we wait for the Australian release, we can draw insights from the Japanese market. The Impreza comes in three unique trims there – ST, ST-G, and ST-H, which aligns with Australia's 2.0i-L, 2.0i Premium, and 2.0i-S versions. Both conventional petrol and e-Boxer Hybrid engines are available depending on the trim, with the option for front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

Key features across all Japanese versions include LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and a 11.6-inch touchscreen for mid- and upper-spec models. The flagship ST-H model boasts of advanced full-LED headlights with adaptive beam and cornering lights.

The ST-G and ST-H trims in Japan come with the 2.0-litre e-Boxer Hybrid powertrain that fuses a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-four engine with a 10kW/65Nm electric motor and 4.8Ah lithium battery. Subaru Australia has yet to confirm whether the hybrid variant will be introduced for the 2024 Impreza model. Both the standard 2.0-litre petrol and the 2.0-litre e-Boxer Hybrid engines will be paired with a CVT automatic transmission.

Anticipate the new Impreza to hit the Australian shores during the latter half of this year. The outgoing model was known for its value-for-money appeal, starting from $26,490 and maxing out at $32,790, with standard all-wheel drive. Prices for the new model may see a slight uptick, estimated to fall between the range of just under $30,000 to just under $40,000.

The Impreza's bold new styling resonates with Subaru's latest aesthetic trends. On the outside, it sports sharp LED headlights and tail-lights, with optional 18-inch alloy wheels available. The US-exclusive Impreza RS sports additional features like dark grey alloys, black exterior finishes, and "upgraded" LED headlights.

The interior sees the addition of an 11.6-inch portrait touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, and digitised climate controls. Entry-level models in the US will retain the 2.0-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, while some models will feature a 2.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder engine.

The Subaru Impreza continues to evolve, showcasing a harmony of style and substance. Stay tuned for further details and Australian market specifics in the near future. As we look forward to more information, we can't help but be excited about what the latest iteration of the Impreza brings to the table.

While Subaru has not released specific dimensions for the 2024 Impreza as of this writing, we can take cues from the current model. The outgoing Impreza measures 4475mm in length, 1775mm in width, 1480mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2670mm. We can anticipate similar, if not marginally different, dimensions for the 2024 model. It's important to note that the latest Crosstrek, which is closely related to the Impreza, is 15mm longer overall, 30mm taller, and has a 5mm longer wheelbase than its predecessor, suggesting that the new Impreza might also grow in size.

The 2024 Impreza builds upon its legacy of safety with new and advanced features. The company continues to include its EyeSight suite of driver-assistance technologies as standard, ensuring a comprehensive safety net for drivers. This suite includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist.

Subaru is taking safety to the next level in the 2024 Impreza with some significant additions. For starters, there's pedestrian and cyclist detection functionality added to the autonomous emergency braking system, which can significantly enhance safety in urban environments. In addition, automatic emergency steering will be added to lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert systems, providing another layer of protection.

The vehicle will also include a rear-seat reminder, a feature aimed at preventing situations where children or pets might accidentally be left in the back seat of the car. Cameras and radar systems supporting these safety features have also been upgraded to provide better performance and reliability.

The 2024 Subaru Impreza is set to maintain Subaru's reputation for high safety standards while introducing new features that align with today's needs for comprehensive driver-assistance and protection systems. Please stay tuned for official releases from Subaru for more specific details about the 2024 Impreza's dimensions and advanced safety features.
