2023 BMW X7: A peek into specs and pricing details
The three-row BMW X7 has come in for a nip and tuck and emerged with more power and technology as standard – but at a far higher price

BMW has disclosed Australian pricing and specifications for the revamped 2023 X7 SUV, with the first units expected to arrive in the final quarter of 2022.

The starting price for the baseline xDrive40d model is $166,900 before on-road costs, and for the premium M60i model, it reaches $197,900 before on-road costs. It's worth noting that these prices are $26,000 and $8,000 higher than their predecessors, the xDrive30d and M50i, respectively.

The X7 2023 model introduces a refreshed design, featuring a split-level front lighting and a three-dimensional rear LED light bar. The illuminated Iconic Glow grille from the X6 SUV now comes standard on the top-tier X7 M60i xDrive and is available as an option for the xDrive40d.

Internally, the X7 has been upgraded with the latest OS8.0 infotainment system, first seen in the i4 and iX electric vehicles. The system comprises a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.9-inch central touchscreen, and an intelligent personal assistant.

The M60i, at the top of the range, comes equipped with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine borrowed from the X5 M Competition, yielding 390kW of power and 750Nm of torque.

Meanwhile, the new xDrive40d comes with a 3.0-litre inline-six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, producing 259kW and 720Nm, marking a significant improvement over the previous xDrive30d.

Among the novel features in the 2023 X7 are an optional six-seat configuration and 23-inch alloy wheels.

Both 2023 BMW X7 xDrive40d and X7 M60i variants house an eight-speed automatic transmission with power distributed to all wheels via an xDrive all-wheel-drive system, including a 48V mild-hybrid system, offering additional 9kW and 200Nm.

Regarding fuel efficiency, the 2023 BMW X7 consumes 8.0L/100km and 12.2L/100km on a combined cycle for the xDrive40d and M60i models, respectively.

BMW has released exterior dimensions of the updated X7,  measure at 5181mm long, 2000mm wide, and 1835mm tall with a 3105mm wheelbase.

The German automaker hasn’t released boot capacity figures for the updated X7 either, but the pre-facelift model has 750L of boot space with all the seats upright and 2120L with the second and third row of seats folded down.

Braked towing capacity is typically 2200kg, but an optional $2500 towing package can increase this limit to 3500kg, with a 280kg tow ball limit.

Standard safety features for all 2023 BMW X7 models include a host of equipment such as eight airbags, autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with cyclist, pedestrian and junction detection, adaptive cruise control with stop/go, and much more.

BMW continues to offer a three-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, whereas other competitors have transitioned to five-year warranties. Details about the updated X7's service package pricing are still under wraps.

Prices for the X7 have increased since its debut in Australia in 2018, with the top-tier M60i now costing $28,000 more than the equivalent M50d model from 2018. But despite the price increase, the X7 now comes packed with more features than ever, including a newly designed instrument panel, BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound audio system, and standard 22-inch alloy wheels.

The all-new 2023 BMW X7 is currently available for order and is sure to turn heads when it hits the road.
