What are the prices for the BMW i7 xDrive60?

The premium 2023 BMW i7 xDrive60 all-electric model is set to begin at $297,900 plus on-road costs, and it includes a third-generation BMW Wallbox, along with a five-year subscription to the Chargefox national charging network.

The entry point for Australian buyers of the new-generation BMW 7 Series is the 740i petrol model, which integrates 48-volt mild-hybrid technology, and starts at $268,900 plus on-road costs.

Competing luxury vehicles include the Audi e-tron GT ($249,700), Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ ($328,400), while the Porsche Taycan 4S, which is less luxurious and more sport-oriented, starts at $208,200, and $283,300 for the faster Taycan Turbo variant.


What’s under the bonnet? 

The pinnacle all-electric i7 xDrive60 employs a dual-motor all-wheel-drive electric powertrain that delivers a total system output of 400kW and 745Nm.

BMW estimates that it can reach 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds, with an electronically-limited maximum speed of 240km/h. The vehicle utilizes a 106kWh battery pack, which can provide a range of up to 625km according to the WLTP test cycle.

It supports AC charging up to 22kW, while DC charging up to 195kW allows for a range extension of roughly 170km in just 10 minutes. Using the same high-speed charging rate, the i7 xDrive60 can also be charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in about 34 minutes.


The WLTP cycle rates the i7's power consumption at 19.6-18.4kW/100km. The i7 is capable of towing up to 2000kg, with a tow ball down weight of 80kg.

On the other hand, the 740i is propelled by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six-cylinder petrol engine coupled with a 48V mild-hybrid system, generating a total system output of 280kW of power and 540Nm of torque. This powertrain is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which channels drive solely to the rear wheels.

BMW reports that the 740i can complete the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.4 seconds.

What is the BMW i7 xDrive60 like on the inside?

For those who might find the new 7 Series' exterior a bit too avant-garde, the interior, filled with a plethora of textures, materials, and features, might not offer much respite.

A major highlight is the curved dual-display which includes a 12.3-inch driver's screen and a massive 14.9-inch centre screen for navigation and infotainment, appearing as if it floats above the dash fascia. The hexagonal skin design of the driver’s screen is a unique BMW feature, while the centre screen utilises BMW's operating system 8/iDrive 8.

The interior trim showcased here is a blend of cashmere wool and Merino leather, creating a suave, suit-like touch. A wide range of colors and finishes, paired with gloss black, satin metal, open-pore wood, and crystal highlights, results in a visually busy but undoubtedly luxurious cabin.


Given its vast dimensions, the interior provides ample space for both the driver and the front passenger, with a wide centre console ensuring comfortable distancing. Seats come equipped with heating and cooling functions, power adjustments, and memory settings, as well as a selection of massage patterns.

For ease of use, doors can be opened manually or with electric assistance, while an auto open and close function ensures they only swing when there's room to do so.

The rear seats are padded and comfortable, with powered blinds for side, rear and roof glass, as well as heated, cooled, and massage features. A 31.3-inch BMW Theatre Screen on the ceiling, equipped with Amazon Fire TV capabilities, enhances the luxury feel.

Neither ANCAP nor Euro NCAP has conducted crash tests on the new 7 Series and i7 as of now.

BMW provides a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty for its range. The i7’s high-voltage battery is covered for eight years or 160,000km, whichever comes first.

In a bid to attract buyers to the i7 variant of the 7 Series, BMW includes a complimentary six years of unlimited-kilometre Service Inclusive Basic maintenance.

As noted, the EV model also comes with a complimentary five-year membership to Chargefox for access to its Fast and Ultra-Rapid (DC 50kW+) charging stations.
