Get ready for the 2024 Mazda CX-90: impressive specs and pricing unveiled
The Mazda CX-90 will soon go on sale in Australia, and we now know precisely what the Volvo XC90 rival will cost when it lands in August

The all-new 2024 Mazda CX-90 is set to grace local dealerships starting August this year. This model, which is Mazda's largest and most luxurious to date, is available for pre-orders now.

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 sports an impressive and sophisticated design, marking its stance as a grand SUV in Mazda's lineup. The vehicle carries a bold and distinct presence with its refined design lines, a prominent grille, and stylish LED headlights, enhancing its road presence.

Depending on the model, the CX-90 is equipped with either 19-inch or 21-inch wheels, adding to the robust and dynamic aesthetic of the vehicle.

The SUV also features a hands-free power tailgate, which makes loading and unloading luggage easier and more convenient. Furthermore, the available panoramic sunroof not only floods the cabin with natural light but also gives the SUV an upscale appearance.

Inside the 2024 Mazda CX-90, you'll find a blend of luxury and technology. The vehicle comes standard with a seven-seat configuration, providing ample room for each passenger. The top-tier Azami variant can be equipped with an optional package, which includes second-row captain's chairs and a rear centre console, providing a more exclusive and comfortable seating arrangement.

Passenger comfort is enhanced by the availability of power-adjustable front seats and ventilated front seats in the more expensive model grades. The interior showcases an impeccable fit and finish with its leather trim, further enhancing the luxurious feel inside the cabin.

Technology-wise, the Mazda CX-90 is not short of impressive features. A 10.25-inch infotainment screen is standard, featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless connectivity. A larger 12.3-inch screen is available in higher grades. The vehicle also includes a 7.0-inch or 12.3-inch instrument display, depending on the model, providing the driver with essential driving data in a crisp and clear format.

Moreover, the Mazda CX-90 comes with a surround-view camera, a head-up display, and a 12-speaker Bose sound system in certain models, ensuring an enhanced driving experience. Safety technology is also a top priority with features such as autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, and more, standard on all models.

The CX-90, powered by 48V electrified inline-six engines exclusively, is poised to compete not only against the Hyundai Palisade and Nissan Pathfinder but also with entry-level models of the Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90. The CX-90 and its sibling, the smaller CX-60, share the same rear-drive platform and will be available in Australia with three trim levels.

At launch, the CX-90 is offered with only two engine choices - a petrol and a diesel variant. However, a 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid variant is expected to join the lineup next year. The entry-level CX-90 G50e Touring model starts at $74,385, escalating up to $95,185 for the top-spec G50e Azami. Please note that all prices exclude on-road costs.

The Mazda CX-90 comes with seven seats as a standard, though there are optional $5000 packages that equip the top-tier Azami model with second-row captain’s chairs and a rear centre console. Vinesh Bhindi, Managing Director for Mazda Australia, touted the CX-90 as a "new dimension in grand SUV touring." He also emphasized that the vehicle represents Mazda's exceptional craftsmanship and human-centric technologies, making it an ideal vehicle for families and adventure enthusiasts.

The initial engine lineup for the CX-90 includes a pair of 3.3-litre inline six powertrains with 48V M Hybrid technology, each available in a petrol and diesel version. The G50e model comes with a 3.3-litre turbocharged inline six petrol mild-hybrid engine, producing 254kW and 500Nm, making it the most potent series-production Mazda engine ever made. On the other hand, the D50e variant features a 3.3-litre inline six turbo-diesel mild-hybrid that produces 187kW (3750rpm) and 550Nm (1500-2400rpm).

Coming to the vehicle's dimensions, the CX-90 measures 5100mm in length, 1994mm in width, and a wheelbase of 3120mm. With all seats in place, the boot can accommodate up to 608 litres of luggage, which can be expanded to 2025 litres with rear seating rows folded.

Like all Mazda vehicles, the CX-90 comes with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty. However, the service pricing for the CX-90 is yet to be announced. It's noteworthy that the service intervals between petrol and diesel models will be different. The petrol G50e models will need servicing every 12 months or every 15,000 kilometres, while the diesel D50e models will need servicing every 10,000km.

On the safety front, the CX-90 is equipped with numerous standard safety features, including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), pedestrian and cyclist detection, junction assist, adaptive cruise control, auto high-beam, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, lane keep assist, secondary collision reduction system, and vehicle exit warning.
