2024 BMW X6: facelifted premium large SUV announced for Australia with 10K price hike
The mid-cycle update for BMW’s sloped-roof X6 has seen price increases come into effect across the range


The latest version of the BMW X6 'coupe SUV' is set to arrive in Australia in the third quarter of 2023, offering a refreshed design and updated features. This highly-anticipated model sees a price increase of $8000 across the board, with the starting price for the xDrive30d variant now pegged at $140,900 excluding on-road costs.

Significantly, all engines for the 2024 BMW X6 now come with a 48V mild-hybrid system that includes an electric motor amalgamated with the transmission, providing an extra boost of up to 9kW and 200Nm. A novel eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission has also been introduced in this updated line.

The xDrive40i variant features an enhanced 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine that delivers 280kW and 520Nm of torque, a substantial upgrade of 35kW and 70Nm from its predecessor. Further aided by the 48V mild-hybrid system, the torque can be augmented up to 540Nm.


The diesel-powered xDrive30d, on the other hand, receives significant improvements, including steel pistons replacing aluminium ones, and a newly integrated common-rail direct injection system. The vehicle's power output stands at 219kW and 670Nm, allowing it to reach 0-100km/h in just 6.1 seconds.

This updated line of X6 also features a new flagship variant, the M60i, replacing the M50i. Retailing from $178,900 plus on-road costs, this variant showcases a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that generates 390kW of power and 750Nm of torque.

A remarkable feature of the revamped X6 is the BMW Curved Display, encompassing a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen assembled into one unit. The latest BMW Operating System 8 runs this infotainment system, offering cloud-based navigation and voice-prompted controls. The vehicle also sports a new ambient light bar across the passenger side of the dashboard, enhancing the cabin ambiance.


From an exterior standpoint, the X6 now boasts sleek, new headlights with arrow-shaped LED daytime running light elements. Additionally, all units will be shipped with the M Sport package as a standard.

Though the fuel economy figures for the updated X6 range are yet to be revealed by BMW Australia, the dimensions remain consistent with the previous model, with a length of 4935mm, a width of 2004mm, a height of 1696mm, and a 2975mm wheelbase. The cargo space stands at 580L, expandable up to 1530L with the rear seats folded down.

As for the warranty, the BMW X6 is now covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, aligning it with the rest of the BMW range. Details regarding the service pricing for the 2024 model remain unconfirmed.


In terms of safety, the 2024 BMW X6 comes equipped with a suite of standard safety features, including Adaptive cruise control with stop/go, Front and Rear cross-traffic alert, Steering & Lane Control Assist, Lane-keep assist, Side Collision Warning, Crossroads warning, Evasion aid, and a comprehensive Parking Assistant Plus package. However, it's worth noting that the X6 hasn't been tested by ANCAP and hence lacks a rating.

The arrival of the 2024 BMW X6, with its striking new features and robust performance, is eagerly anticipated in Australia in the third quarter of of 2023.
