2023 Genesis GV60: advanced tech and improved specs at an increased price
The inclusion of Genesis Connected Services headlines this GV60 update less than a year after it was introduced to Australia

The 2023 Genesis GV60, the first fully electric model from Hyundai's luxury brand, has been revamped with a $4000 price increase following its debut in Australian showrooms last year.

Underpinned by the same platform as its siblings, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, the 2023 GV60 adds more airbags, facial recognition technology, fingerprint scanning, enhanced interior tech, and a new connected-car smartphone application. The updated model ranges from $107,700 to $114,700, plus on-road costs, reflecting the upgraded features.

One of the key advancements in the 2023 Genesis GV60 is the integration of Genesis Connected Services (GCS), providing a host of internet-connected features accessible either through the in-car infotainment system or the companion smartphone app. GCS brings an array of features, including SOS emergency call function, remote locking and unlocking, battery status, valet mode, EV charging station search, and remote viewing of the vehicle's 360-degree camera. This convenience comes free for the first five years of ownership.

This latest model also debuts Genesis' over-the-air (OTA) updates, which permit software updates to be downloaded and installed without requiring a visit to the dealership. A significant advantage for the modern, tech-savvy driver.

In a significant step towards personalized technology, the 2023 GV60 debuts the facial recognition feature, Face Connect, which uses a camera located in the driver's door pillar. The system recognizes the driver and adjusts the seat, steering wheel, and mirrors according to their preferences. The vehicle can even be unlocked without a key. Once inside, the driver can start the car using the Fingerprint Start feature, eliminating the need for a physical key inside the vehicle.

The Performance AWD variant has been upgraded with a Virtual Gear Shift, offering an engaging driving experience by mimicking the feel of an automatic transmission through the paddle shifters. This unique feature can be turned on or off and does slow the vehicle slightly but adds an engaging element to the driving experience.

A range of safety enhancements includes the addition of rear-side airbags, protecting the rear passengers in side-impact crashes, and an air purification mode. Aesthetic improvements include new Genesis-branded rear brake calipers covers and additional options for front footwell lighting color control.

The 2023 GV60 model offers updated paint choices, including Capri Blue Mica and Makalu Grey Metallic, and the removal of Sao Paulo Lime green from the selection.

For the performance enthusiasts, the base GV60 AWD is powered by two electric motors and a 77.4kWh battery delivering 234kW and 605Nm with a claimed WLTP driving range of 470km. The Performance AWD version steps up the game with 180kW dual electric motors, providing 320kW and 605Nm under normal conditions, or up to 360kW and 700Nm in 'Boost Mode' for brief 10-second periods. In this mode, Genesis claims 0-100km/h times of just 4.0 seconds, with a claimed range of 466km.

Despite the upgrades and enhancements, Genesis has not compromised on their commitment to comprehensive after-sales support. The GV60 is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, an eight-year, 160,000km warranty for the high-voltage battery, and five years of complimentary service for up to 75,000km.

With the GV60, Genesis continues to provide a comprehensive after-sales package. This includes the 'Genesis To You' program, offering concierge servicing, complimentary courtesy vehicle for five years, and roadside assistance for five years, which can be extended to 10 years if you service at an authorised Genesis dealer. As an additional benefit, Genesis offers GV60 owners the choice of a five-year Chargefox subscription or a home AC charger.

For buyers prioritising safety, the GV60 was awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating in 2022, based on testing conducted by Euro NCAP. The vehicle now comes with a total of 10 airbags due to the addition of rear side airbags. This is in line with a suite of standard active safety technologies like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Junction Assist, Rear AEB, and Blind-Spot Monitoring and Assist, among others.

In terms of physical dimensions, the Genesis GV60 measures 4515mm long, 1890mm wide, and 1595mm tall, with a generous wheelbase of 2900mm. It boasts a spacious boot capacity of 432 litres with the rear seats upright, which can be expanded up to 1460 litres with the seats folded.

The colour palette of the 2023 Genesis GV60 extends to include Vik Black, Atacama Copper gloss and matte, Barossa Burgundy, Saville Silver, Capri Blue, Hanauma Mint, Makalu Grey, Mauna Red, Uyuni White, and Matterhorn White Matte. However, the matte exterior paint colours, priced at an additional $2000, are only available for the top-tier GV60 Performance AWD variant.
